“Geo” means Earth. “Location” means...you know, finding stuff. So “geolocation” means “finding stuff on Earth.”
You phone’s GPS function is the most obvious example. The little blue dot that shows you that you’re just two minutes away from that artisanal cupcake shop you’ve heard so much about...a clearly important application of geolocation.
